Novak Djokovic before returning to Australia – tournament schedule taking shape ahead of Australian Open

The World Tennis League, which is not part of the official ATP or WTA calendars, is the show event (December 19–24) for the first time. Men and women compete against each other in four teams of four.

Djokovic plays in the so-called Falcons alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Grigor Dimitrov and Paula Padosa. The two best teams qualify for the final.

For a long time it was not clear for the Serb whether he would even be able to start at the tournament in Australia.

After the visa drama and expulsion from Australia in January, Djokovic should not have been allowed to enter the country for three years. However, Australian Immigration Secretary Andrew Giles recently lifted that ban.

So there is nothing standing in the way of the long-time world number one taking part in the Australian Open and other preparatory tournaments. Djokovic has won the so-called Happy Slam nine times. With a win in Melbourne, the 35-year-old (21 titles) could equal Rafael Nadal (22) in Grand Slam successes. Recently, Djokovic also won the ATP Finals of the Top Eight Players of the Year.
