Mauricio Bejarano, Vice Minister of Mines and Energy of the MOPC, explained that Paraguay is a high consumer of petroleum derivatives in transportation and cooking, so avoiding foreign dependence is important. He explained that energy security is sought through hydrocarbon exploration.
Bejarano celebrated that after six years of no exploratory activity, our country can now revive the search for hydrocarbons in the Chaco.
The exploration of the third well was initiated by the company Presidente Energy Py S. A in Block 6 located in the department of Boquerón, where they intend to find oil, although the possibility of finding natural gas is not ruled out.
“The only way to find hydrocarbons is to explore. So, what is happening now at the national level to restart these activities means great satisfaction for us, not only for the investment represented of it within the sector, but for the geological information it can provide us,” said the vice minister.
For the official, the search for hydrocarbons means having energy security to avoid dependence on other countries, if the amount found is significant.
“We have a significant consumption of petroleum derivatives throughout the transportation sector, we have a significant consumption of liquefied petroleum gas in kitchens. So, basically what this means is avoiding dependence on other countries, regardless of the economic benefits it may mean for the country and for the population, in particular,” he added.
Paraguay has reactivated the search for hydrocarbons and, throughout the country, there are 54 wells in the East and West regions where they can be explored.
