Mayors, producers and actors of local agri-food systems can access information on soil condition, land ownership, energy consumption, finance and investments, agricultural production, nutritional status, population dynamics and animal health situation, among others, through their mobile phones and other devices other data that characterize their areas.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported that this result is possible thanks to the Network of Municipal Observatories for Food Sovereignty and Security which encourages greater use of science , Technology and Innovation in Food Production.
ROSS is an extension of the National Observatory of Food and Nutritional Sovereignty with More Science, SAEN+C, a technological platform developed by the University of Pinar del RÃo and through which has support from the Cuban government and technical assistance from the FAO, whose specialists have worked on the design, construction of the network and capacity building for its use in the three regions of the country.
In this digital age, as many call it, ROSS represents a working tool for the management of data, information, knowledge, technologies and innovations in the context of the implementation of the Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Food Security of Cuba (SAN), as well as for the development of local Action plans refer FAO specialists.
The organization has contributed to the socialization of potential to identify nutritional deficiencies in each community, the productions that most need to be increased and the limitations to achieve sovereignty.
