Official results of first round of elections in Brazil confirmed - Escambray

The next phase of the vote will take place on 30 October when Lula faces right-wing leader Jair Bolsonaro.

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) officially confirmed the victory of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with 48.43 percent of the vote in the first round of Sunday’s election in Brazil.

This Tuesday the victory of the presidential candidate of the Workers’ Party was confirmed after one hundred percent turnout, 41 hours after the official time for the end of voting.

The next phase of the vote will take place on October 30 when Lula faces right-wing leader Jair Bolsonaro, who now seeks to be re-elected by the Liberal Party after reaching 43.20 percent of valid ballots last Sunday.

No candidate for power secured an absolute majority of the votes in the first trial, i.e. more than half the valid votes (excluding blank and void votes), as established by Brazilian law to be elected.

The vote for Lula reached 57,259,504, or 48.43 percent, on Tuesday, and a total of 51,72,345 (43.20) for Bolsonaro.

Also in the presidential elections, the former Labor leader came first in 3,378 cities in Brazil, with much predominance in the Northeast, while Bolsonaro won at the front in 2,192 cities, emphasizing centre-west and south regions.

Of all the municipalities of Serra, Paraiba, Piau and Sergipe, Lula was voted the most. Bolsonaro, for his part, completely conquered Rondnia, in addition to the Federal District (DF).

The court also indicated that elections for governor were completed on Sunday in 14 states and the federal district. The other 12 regional divisions would require a second turn.

The Chamber of Deputies, the Federal Senate and the Legislative Assemblies do not have a second round of disputes and have already been concluded.

For the lower house, the elected federal representatives would occupy 513 seats. Of the 50 with the most votes, 20 were nominated by the state of So Paulo, the country’s largest electoral college, accounting for 22.16 percent of the total number of voters.
