The Ministry of Health works to make doctors more efficient in training, protection, remuneration, psychological care and guidance in cases of sexual assault. This was reported by the General Director of Quality and Education in Health (DGCES), José Luis GarcÃa Ceja, who participated in the forum “The Present and Future of Social Service in Medicine” organized by the Health Commission of the Senate of the Republic. ,
GarcÃa Ceja explained that in order to improve the quality of services, it is necessary to address the needs of medical students in social service.
The head of DGCES pointed out that in the allocation of social service places, preference is given to those places which guarantee security for this practice. In the event that the site does not meet the requirements or an incident occurs that affects the doctor or doctor in training, the location will be cancelled.
Increase in payment of scholarships to medical interns
The Director also announced that a proposal had been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) to increase the amount of the scholarship. which are aimed at graduate students and interns in medicine, nursing and dentistry.
This request was also shared with the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) and the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and ISSSTE. He said that the purpose of increasing the scholarship is that the health experts can meet their basic needs. The foregoing regardless of the place where they provide their services, whether in a city or a distant community.
They intend to reduce the number of hours in the weekly guard.
He also mentioned that on 17 June, the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) published the Official Standards for the Organization and Operation of Medical Accommodations in Medical Care Establishments. With this, it will be possible to evaluate the use of establishments for medical care such as clinical areas for clinical cycles and graduate internships for degrees in medicine. In addition, official rules establish a reduction in the number of hours on duty per week.
He also mentioned the study conducted by DGCES to identify cases of violence and sexual harassment in work environment during HR training. He indicated that the National Suicide Prevention Program has a specific component in identifying and addressing suicidal behavior in the medical profession.
They revealed that the suicide rate in the medical community is higher than in the general population. This is due to “occupational stress” which is greater than that present in various occupations.
