Omicron COVID-cures 3-5 times higher than risk of re-infection: WHO

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people who have recovered from COVID-19 are 3 to 5 times more likely to have the Omicron variant than Delta.

According to the WHO’s regional director for Europe, Hans Henri P Kluge, the Omicron variant may evade previous immunity in people.

“So it can still infect people who have had COVID-19 in the past, those who have been unvaccinated, and those who were vaccinated several months ago,” Kluge said in a recent note.

“There are three things we need to do urgently: protect ourselves through vaccination, prevent further infections, and prepare the health system for a surge in cases”.

Kluge said health officials should strengthen capacity, increase testing and detection capabilities, include primary health care in case management, prepare hospitals for a boom, and support health and frontline workers. should support.

“In two years, our health workers are once again being tested severely. It is extremely worrying that one in 5 suffers from anxiety and depression from the pandemic. Their concerns must be addressed and manageable work needs to be done. Their need for the situation must be supported,” the WHO executive had insisted.

For the first time this week in Europe, the cases of Kovid crossed one million. Since the start of the pandemic, Europe has recorded more than 100 million COVID cases, accounting for more than a third of all infections worldwide.

Meanwhile, India witnessed a rise of 21 per cent in 24 hours as it recorded over 1.4 lakh fresh Covid infections on Friday.

With 285 new deaths, the total death toll has gone up to 4,83,463.

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of omicron infections reached 3,071 across the country.
