Once in a traffic jam, Wild responds with a victory over the devil.

NEWARK, NJ – For now, the Wilds seem poised to try anything to fix the slow start that has plagued them this season.

Even sit on the bus for 2.5 hours in the middle of rush hour in New York. Even arrive at the arena about 34 minutes before the puck falls. Even start the game half an hour later than planned.

The command bus left the Wild Hotel in Manhattan at approximately 4:00 pm Wednesday. He did not call at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ until 6:26 pm Wednesday night.

The closure of the Holland Tunnel has supported traffic in large sections of New York City. In turn, what should have been a 10 mile trek has morphed into a journey that Wild players won’t soon forget.

“We took a beautiful, scenic route in New York,” joked Marcus Foligno. “It was amazing. I had to show (Kirill Kaprizov) a little more. The young guys liked it very much. ”

“No, it was interesting,” added Foligno, who said the players were literally playing “Don’t worry, be happy” when they got stuck in traffic. “I was late for the games because of a blizzard or something. It was different. We were having a little dance party when we got closer and a police escort came up, so the guys were in a light mood. ”

Perhaps the funniest part of the whole night is that the police escort really slowed down Wild.

“We came to this place about 10 minutes walk, and then stopped at the side of the road, waiting for them, although we could probably come here,” said Foligno with a laugh. “As soon as we got the police escort, there was no one on the road.”

When Dikiy finally arrived and rushed to the dressing room, the game had already been postponed. I had to quickly change clothes and take ice for a warm-up. No pre-game schedule.

This all seemed like a recipe for disaster, so naturally Wild responded with a stellar revelation 20 minutes before they beat Devils in a 3-2 shootout. This helped Wild make a successful 1-1-1 ride.

“It’s a little different today. I will not lie, – said Niko Sturm. “It is what it is. At some point on the bus, we just accepted the fact that it should be so. Yeah. We did pretty well.”

Maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Wild went berserk in the first period. In the end, they were stuck on the bus for 2.5 hours before the game.

This took a toll on the ice as Ryan Hartman took Wild 1-0 ahead, with a deviation midway through the first period. From that point on, Wild were on the mend as Sturm increased the lead to 2-0, scoring a goal shortly before the first period came to a close.

“We liked our start. Finally, said coach Dean Evason. “We didn’t love too much after that because we weren’t running the game anymore. We talked about doing the right thing and learning to play with success or deal with success. And today we didn’t do it anymore. ”

This made Cam Talbot stand on his head for a long time until the end of the journey.

After looking sharp in the beginning, keeping the puck flawless and limiting rebounds, Talbot made a couple of huge saves in the second period, with Wilde looking a little sluggish. His best save came from striker Jimmy Veasey at the start of the frame and seemed to give him a bit of swagger.

In the third period, striker Pavel Zak helped the Devils close the gap to 2-1 early on with the help of a top-notch sniper.

This made things very interesting later on, and while Wild managed to kill 68 seconds in a 5v3 game, they couldn’t stop the Devils from tying the game up. In the last minute, center Yegor Sharangovich equalized the score 2: 2, rolling the bouncing puck in front of Talbot.

This forced extra time, then a penalty shootout, and in the end Wild won a well-deserved victory. Accordingly, after Kevin Fiala converted his shootout attempt, Talbot made one last save of the game to secure the win.

“We just polished it up,” Talbot said. “Obviously, the circumstances were not ideal for tonight. No time to get ready. But we must pay tribute to our guys. We went out and scored a couple (of goals) earlier. Bent a little at the end there. As a result, we got two points, which is the most important. ”
