Mossad, Israel’s Intelligence and Special Operations Institute, is one of the most famous intelligence agencies in the world. Founded in 1949 by former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, Mossad has played an important role in Israel’s history since its inception, with spectacular operations that have left an indelible mark on global geopolitics.
The genesis of the Mossad lies in the need to guarantee the survival of the newly created State of Israel. Under Ben-Gurion’s direction, this agency became the country’s main line of defense and power projection. Since then, Mossad has been operating in the shadows, carrying out intelligence, counterintelligence and special operations missions around the world.
Throughout its history, Mossad has carried out remarkable operations such as Operation Garibaldi in 1960, which led to the arrest of Adolf Eichmann, one of the main architects of the Nazi Holocaust. They also focused on dealing with Palestinian threats, with operations such as Operation “Wrath of God” in 1972. This mission resulted in the elimination of members of the Black September group, responsible for the tragic attacks. -attack on the Munich Olympics.
The Mossad does not operate alone. It has formed strategic alliances with other intelligence services, emphasizing its continued collaboration with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States. This relationship was consolidated during the Cold War and continues to this day. Mossad’s cooperation with Europol on cross-border crime issues has led to the breaking up of terrorist plots in various countries, including the United States and many European countries.
Mossad established links to an Israeli self-defense system called Krav Maga. This discipline is considered effective in self-defense and includes a wide range of physical and psychological methods. Many Mossad operatives are trained in Krav Maga, giving them the skills needed to deal with dangerous situations.
Currently, the Mossad is mainly focused on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, with rumors of its involvement in important events such as the assassination of the head of the Iranian nuclear program in 2020 and the sabotage of the Natanz nuclear power plant in 2021.
