In the presence of Luis Morlote Rivas, President of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), the Organizing Commission of the Xth Congress of the Organization was opened in Las Tunas, which will be preceded by a process at various levels until its development at the end of June 2023.
Marina Lourdes Jacobo, head of the Provincial Committee of the Territory, told the invited members, officials of the party, government, and culture, how this selection is put together with representatives of the Puerto Padre Committee as well as the branches of music, visual arts, literature, performing arts, film, radio, and television.
Morlote noted that it is important to reach branch and provincial meetings with issues that center the work of culture and hinder creation.
“The call expressed the need for us to really succeed in mobilizing the entire membership within the organization that we have gathered here for a long time, but we also need to mobilize new members.”
“We have to do real work that identifies the issues that would be territorially priority, but also what conceptual things influence today’s creation from the institutional system of culture and society, and then define the commissions that will work.” .
On this occasion, the creators of the territory reiterated the main themes that they had raised when setting up the Commission, mentioning, among other things, the situation of theaters, the protection of heritage, and criticism as a necessary exercise to differentiate artistic products from their different manifestations.
The 10th Uneac Congress is planned for the last days of June 2024. The first quarter of the year hosts the branch and community meetings, and in May the provincial meetings provide an opportunity to analyze the organization’s internal functioning and impact on the social fabric of contemporary Cuba.
