An Oregon man’s difficult sleep after a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas prompted him to give his guns to local officials.
Ben Beers, a resident of Hillsborough, Oregon, called for action on gun violence and shared his experience giving away his firearms on TikTok. Bears’ action comes after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012 that killed 19 children and two teachers in a school shooting on Tuesday.
Byers said he gave his AR-15 and handgun to the Hillsborough Police Department in Oregon. The department confirmed to the Oregonian that the Bears had surrendered the weapons.
“I don’t want them anymore,” he said on TikTok.
“I know it won’t change the law or anything with gun culture in America, but hopefully it will be a form of symbolism and hopefully America can wake up because no other country has the problem that we have with gun culture and Do with ideology and gun violence.”
The video has been viewed nearly 200,000 times on TikTok as of Saturday morning.

The Bears told KGW in Oregon that the viral nature of his video was a good sign.
“Hopefully, soon we can all wake up and realize this needs to be done. … It’s an idea,” Beers said. “Guns are not as valuable to us, and neither are my Second Amendment rights as much as my children’s lives in school.”
Beer, a father of two, told KGW that he understood that selling weapons could have earned him money.
“But that’s the problem,” he said. ,[Guns] There is already a lot of economic impact in this country. It’s already a big money maker and that’s the root of the problem.”
According to Newsweek, Bears, an ex-Marine and now-former “lifelong” gun owner, said he wants to see America ban semi-automatic weapons.
“That’s what this country needs,” he said. “We’ve already dug ourselves into this hole and we’re destroying ourselves.”
