The latest streaming giant to compete with Netflix and Disney+ has launched in Ireland.
aramount+ costs €7.99 per month but is free for anyone who is already a Sky Cinema subscriber.
The platform will rely on shows such as Spongebob Squarepants, Yellowstone, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to attract subscribers.
It will feature other content from Paramount-owned television networks including ShowTime, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV.
It will also be available on the usual technology platforms, including a native app for Apple and Android, as well as Apple TV, Chromecast, and other set-top boxes.
However, it may be some time before the streaming platform becomes available on some new TVs, as giants such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV+ are doing. The company says it will be available for Samsung smart TVs purchased after 2017.
Paramount+ is entering an increasingly crowded streaming ecosystem with multiple reports suggesting the market is currently saturated and consumers are considering cutting back on spending due to the cost-of-living crisis.
Netflix recently saw its subscriber base dwindle for the first time when competitors pumped billions of dollars into production budgets, capturing the lion’s share of new streaming customers over the past year.
However, the online TV giant is still the largest streaming platform on the market with 221 million subscribers.
Disney+ recently gained 8 million subscribers and now has 138 million paying customers thanks to its exclusive hosting of Star Wars and Pixel content and the vast majority of Marvel movies and TV shows.
Paramount+ hopes that newer titles such as Halo, The Offer, The First Lady and Jerry & Marge Go Large can take their competitors’ market share here.
He also retains the rights to other British dramas, including Sexy Beast, A Gentleman in Moscow, Flat Share, Burning Girls, The Ex-Wife and Blue.
Paramount+ is also launching in the UK this week, with continental Europe following later this year.
“Adding Paramount+ to our extensive portfolio of free, paid and streaming services will expand the range of choices available to our audience in the UK and Ireland,” said Maria Kyriakou, President of Paramount Australia, Canada and Israel. and UK.
“Paramount+ will be a one-stop destination for Paramount’s biggest brands, where fans of all ages can find exclusive original premium content, global hits and discover a world of favorites from Paramount’s extensive catalog.”
