Patagonia, Live Nation pledge to evacuate workers trapped in peaceful abortion protests

Patagonia and Live Nation Entertainment have both announced that they will grant bail to any employee arrested while peacefully protesting against the Supreme Court reversal of Roe v. Wade.

Patagonia told workers Friday that the company would post bail for any full- and part-time workers who “peacefully protest for reproductive justice.”

The company stressed in a statement that workers would be offered protest training, “resources to make informed choices on the ballot” and time to vote. Patagonia has long been active in various social and environmental causes, and encourages its activists to get involved as well.

In addition, the company joins a growing list of businesses that are offering to help cover the expenses of women forced to move out of state to have abortions. Patagonia will pay for travel, accommodation and meals for employees on its health care plans.

Patagonia said in a statement on LinkedIn that it is the responsibility of businesses to provide employees with the “dignity of access to reproductive health care.”

That means “supporting employees’ choice of whether or not they have a child,” the company said. “It means giving parents the resources they need to work and raise children.”

Concert promoter Live Nation said in an Instagram and Twitter post titled “We Stand With Women” that it “supports community activism,” and will “cover bail expenses for staff arrested for protesting peacefully.”

The company is also covering travel expenses for workers who need “access to women’s health services outside their home state.”

In addition, Live Nation is connecting with artists for abortion rights, voter registration and voter turnout. It’s matching Lizzo’s pledge to donate $500,000 to Planned Parenthood amid the fight for abortion rights.
