In this final phase of 2023, with various goals going around the world, Colombian football has proven to be a great contender for winning the Puskas award of the season. Two of them were in the second tier, where talent and artistry abound.
It was a result very similar to that achieved by Yerson Candelo in 2022, when he was an Atlético Nacional player and scored a great goal of this kind against Deportes Tolima in the first leg of the Betplay League.
Well, not satisfied with this great goal, this Monday there was another painting in the second category. This time in a duel between Patriotas Boyacá and Barranquilla.
The second goal for the Boyacá team came on the last play, in the seventh minute of overtime. Santiago Roa struck a powerful shot before halftime that surprised the visitors’ goal and equalized the final score at 2-0. Roa’s big goal is to travel around the world, and they have made him a solid contender for the traditional Puskas prize.
It should be noted that Colombia already knows what it means to win the Puskas Prize. In 2014, midfielder James Rodriguez received the iconic award after his superb goal at that year’s World Cup against Uruguay in the round of 16.
This is how the promotion tournament in Colombia works
The duel between Patriotas and Barranquilla was the trigger for the conclusion of day 8 of the Betplay tournament. Teams like Ccuta Deportivo, Fortaleza, Real Cartagena, and Tigres struck that day.
The black team, known on social media for their ingenuity in their publications, is the tournament leader with 21 units. The Bogotans hardly lost a game in this tournament and won the remaining seven.
Behind them are Barranquilla and Cartagena, two teams that have shone this season and are represented by 15 units each.
Patriotas, on the other hand, the current champion of the tournament, is not having a good time as he is in box 13 of the tournament. The last is Tigres, who still remains in the background despite his victory that day.
