Peru’s agricultural exports to the United States grow by 3% in 2023

Between January and November last year, the United States, one of the main markets for Peruvian agro-exports, experienced changes in its ranking of Peruvian products purchased. In this period, Peru was able to export a total of $2,932 million, an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to FreshFruit, among all agricultural products shipped, the most outstanding are blueberries, with 28% participation, followed by grapes, with 21%. Closing the podium is asparagus, with 8%. A surprise.

Regarding blueberry purchases, it amounted to 98,818 tons for $812 million, which means a 29% decrease in volume but a 19% increase in value. This was accompanied by an increase in the average price of the product, which reached $8.22 per kilogram, 68% higher than last year. This reduction in quantity is due to climate problems that have an impact on fruit production.

For its part, shipments of Peruvian grapes in this market totaled 231,265 tons for $604 million. Compared to 2022, it is 39% more in volume and 48% more in value.

At the same time, the average price in this market was also favored by 6%, reaching a price of $2.61 per kilo.

Asparagus, on the other hand, after two years, returned to the podium after replacing coffee and avocado. In these eleven months of last year, shipments of Peruvian asparagus totaled 64,728 tons for $230 million, which, despite being 22% lower in volume, was 7% higher in value. The price of the product was able to increase by 38%, reaching $3.56 per kilogram, which overcompensated for the decrease in exported quantities.
