Each tiny house costs about $ 55,000, officials said, making it the cheapest source of homeless housing in Los Angeles County. Each house in the village was hand-painted by renowned YouTube artist Zach Hsi, as well as a team of other artists he hired to decorate the village.
“Solving the problem of homelessness requires creative and durable solutions that meet an urgent and critical need for housing today, while at the same time giving our homeless neighbors a path to a permanent place where they will live tomorrow,” said Mayor Eric Garcett, who attended the opening villages on Thursday morning. “The only way to end this crisis is to offer longer-term, better housing options, and as the largest village with tiny houses in the country, Arroyo Seko Village is the latest milestone in our quest to provide healing and hope for our most vulnerable. neighbors.
The village, operated by the Valley Hope Rescue Mission, was funded and built by the City of Los Angeles.
“This is part of the commitment of City Councilor De Leon to contribute 25,000 new homeless housing units by 2025,” the 14th District Office said in a statement Tuesday.
De Leon, who is running for mayor Eric Garcetti, who has run out of time spent the night in tiny houses, he said to prove that housing can be convenient and economical for the homeless community.
The residents are expected to settle in the village on November 2.
The Arroyo Seco facility at 5950 Arroyo Drive is the seventh open village in the city and the sixth village managed by Hope of The Valley.
