Photos: Atmospheric river continues to beat across the Bay Area

A violent storm hit the Bay Area on Sunday, knocking down trees and utilities, leaving nearly 148,000 households and businesses without electricity and prompting evacuation orders in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties amid rising flood risks.

The “atmospheric river” storm flooded much of Northern California, with 3 to 6 inches of rain falling as it rolled in from the Pacific Ocean. Some parts of the North Bay received even more rainfall – up to 10 inches in one place. And along with the rains came harsh gusts of wind.
