Pisarello will not attend the swearing-in of the Princess

Gerardo Pisarellofirst secretary of the Congress Board and deputy of En Comú en Podem within the Plurinational Group of Sumar, will not attend this Tuesday at the end of the swearing-in of the Constitution of Princess Leonor. Sources from the commons announced their decision this Monday, even though the group’s management wants to guarantee its institutional representation.

Pisarello has already announced this to the president of the Board, the socialist Francina Armengol. “He will not attend the event because of the decision of En Comú Podem, because of republican coherence and because of the disapproval of an anachronistic act that seeks to legitimize the lack of democracy in the election of the Head of State,” explained the aforementioned sources. .

Pisarello himself said last week that if the leadership of the group, whose president is Yolanda Díaz herself, decides that he, as the first secretary of the Board, must attend, he will do it with “the dignity of the republic.” However, his party clearly hesitated and chose not to participate.

In his place, and so that the common people may have that presence, the Minister of the University attends, John Subirats”from the responsibility of the functions of the Government and to guarantee a minimum presence in the institution,” as they explained.

Last week, the second vice president of the acting Government, Yolanda Díaz, confirmed her presence at the swearing in of the Princess. The parties that make up Sumar, with a clear republican conviction, have discussed for several days what role to play in this plenary session.

The final decision was that Díaz, the representatives of Sumar who were also members of the Congressional Board, attended; the third vice president, Esther Gil de Reboleño and the first secretary, Gerardo Pisarello, and the spokesperson of the group, Marta Lois. The Ministers of Social Rights and Equality, who are also leaders of Podemos, Ione Belarra and Irene Montero, decided not to attend. The Minister of Consumption and leader of Izquierda Unida, Alberto Garzón, will also not attend this Tuesday.
