Life Story: Troubled by poverty, she adopted seven children and founded an NGO

The interview touched on a great variety of topics where it was analyzed role of women in business world And what factors must be present, changed or maintained if you want to continue on the path of growth and innovation in business.

What are the keys to incoming leadership?

We are talking about the moment businesses are in and the agility with which they are changing and how we have to adapt to change and innovation. I think something that drives new leadership is innovation. We make companies people and what we need is innovative leadership, leaders of continuous change in corporations and in the business world, more level-headed leaders who challenge themselves, who admit mistakes, who encourage their people to do the same. Let’s test and inspire. When I started, leaders were seen as something unattainable, but today there is a need for leadership that is close to the people. To be able to do new things with the agility that the market requires, you have to be open to error, change, and change.

If you had to define a few traits, what should a woman possess that points to a leadership position?

First you have to be ready. we have a training called next board where we help the women who are in c level Prepare to take the next step and reach the destination group. But there is something that we women take for granted, but that should be on the table, which is the courage to face challenges. Adapt ourselves to the change we want and say: ‘Hey, let’s have the courage to see it and accept it.’ When new roles come around, he’s usually the first one to say ‘I’m up for it’. The courage to challenge is fundamental, we must encourage ourselves and be ambitious.

You just mentioned women corporate directors, how does a company benefit if it has more women on its board?

I think diversity is important in its broadest sense. If you all sit at the same table, you’re going to have terrible bias in your decision making because everyone is going to see the same thing. Before them all were lawyers, accountants, some career that used to occupy that table; today you have entrepreneurs in a group From a mega company, psychologist, engineer, someone who knows about technology. Therefore, from a professional point of view there is a detail that enriches the decision. It’s also important what to look for in new talent, how to find and retain them and I think Women have an empathy and an eye towards the human part that adds up to a lot.

Are companies ready to value that diversity?

Everything is there. Companies that do first and take a hit and others that still don’t see a profit. We are in a scenario where we are moving slowly.

Why are spaces important? networking?

Networks are important and this is something that is very difficult for women. Men have looked for a place to meet from the very beginning, and it is more difficult for women. networking It’s part of the job. If it’s hard for us, let’s share the same problems and solutions. Visibility is important and without it it is hard for them to get to know you. When you consider your career, part of it is growing in your company, learning more every day and seeing what networks you get to weave. network of networking women are also important Because we share problems, solutions, and generosity when we share spaces.

Is it useful to talk about quotas?

Five years ago, if you had asked me the same question, I would have said: ‘No, I got there on my own merit, I killed myself working. Quota Number’. But the truth is that working in WCD, meeting women and seeing what happens in the real market changed my mind. Today is a reality in which there is no equal opportunity. I think quota acts like an accelerator and works to generate We need to find that talented woman we want to have at our table. All the countries that are moving forward in a level playing field are those that either have quotas or have taken measures that have helped them to see what is happening.

Theory versus practice: how are we at it?

We talk a lot and this topic often comes up for discussion. There is an evolution in practice. At KPMG we study women on boards and there has been progress: from 10% five years ago, we are at 15% or 16% today, which is great but slow. We are more, luckily we are moving: the numbers and the spaces show it. But when you look at the whole, we are still few, we are lost in the middle. If you look at us alone we look like many, if we mix in the corporate and business world we are more but there is still a long way to go.
