Police: Missing 5-year-old boy from Idaho likely kidnapped

FRUITLAND, Idaho. Police investigators in southwestern Idaho now say the 5-year-old boy, who has gone missing since July, was likely kidnapped.

Fruitland Police Chief Jay Dee Huff said at a press conference on Thursday that the search for Michael Vaughan will not stop until the boy is found.

Huff said no progress has been made despite exhaustive ground searches within a 2-mile radius of the family’s home in the past few months using trained search dogs, drones, helicopters, local homeowners and several law enforcement agencies. According to Huff, this increases the likelihood of Michael being kidnapped.

“We got some solid advice,” Huff said. “We work on them every single day. In the end, we just find that they will lead nowhere. “

Michael was last seen outside his home in Fruitland on July 27, wearing a blue Minecraft T-shirt, navy blue boxer shorts and flip-flops. He is described as being 3 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 50 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes, and answers to the monkey nickname.

At a press conference on Thursday, the boy’s mother, Brandi Neal, reached out to the public for help, stating that her family was broken up without him.

“I am here to ask you to keep Michael’s face, his name and his story in every one of your hearts, your eyes and your thoughts,” she said. “If you know anything, if you know something, please, I beg you. This is my child, this is my son. I need him at home.

Although they are not suspects, police are looking for at least four people who were in the area around the time he disappeared. Two of these people were seen walking on the evening of July 27, and two cars – a Honda Pilot and a Dodge Avenger – left the area that night.

The $ 50,100 City Reward Fund is available to anyone who provides information that will lead to Michael’s safe return, Huff said. The funds will be available until March 31, 2022.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Fruitland Police Department at 208-642-6006 or email [email protected]
