On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend our best wishes to the people of Mexico as they celebrate their Independence on September 16.
As our closest partners, neighbors and friends, Mexico and the United States are working together to create the better future we seek for our region and our world. Last year, we deepened our security cooperation to ensure the safety of our citizens and communities, including joint action to combat organized crime and drug trafficking. Through our High-Level Economic Dialogue, the North American Leaders Summit, and the historic Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas, we are united, both ways and with partners in our hemisphere, to create high-quality jobs, build strong regional supply chains and grow our economy from the bottom up and from within. Mexico and the United States are also working together to address many global and regional challenges, including combating climate change and combating the causes of irregular migration. And above all, we work together to take care of our people, whose close-knit culture and family have not only strengthened our countries for generations, but also remind us that our future is inextricably linked. United by mutual respect and shared values, I look forward to further deepening the partnership between Mexico and the United States to continue building a future that is freer, fairer, safer, and more prosperous for the people of our two countries. I wish you happy celebrations as you celebrate the anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.
