Guatemala. The governments of Guatemala and the United States agreed to work on a comprehensive program to stop irregular migration. The initiative will facilitate access to legal pathways, family reunification and temporary work visas to the US and other countries.
This was informed by the executive after a high-level meeting with the US representatives, following the recent communication between the President of the Republic and US Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to officials, the first phase of the project will be the implementation of the pilot phase, which will last for six months. The plan is called the Safe Mobility Office, and it will begin on June 12 with the acceptance of appointments through the website mobidadsegura.org.
According to the Social Communications Secretary of the Presidency, “cooperation in border security matters will continue and we will continue to address the causes of the incident in this area.”
The pilot scheme will run for 6 months and will start from June 12.

As discussed, the North American delegation and high-ranking Guatemalan officials met to follow up on managing the challenges facing the parties.
Both governments commit to taking a number of important steps to humanely reduce irregular migration and expand legal avenues in accordance with the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection.
Local authorities were represented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and National Defense, as well as the nation’s Attorney General, the Director of Migration, and Guatemala’s Ambassador to the United States.
