PSG calls for President al-Khelai to leave after Champions League collapse

Representatives of Paris Saint-Germain’s ultra fan groups have called on President Nasser al-Khelaiah to step down from his role immediately.

PSG were beaten by Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, taking a two-goal lead to eliminate them from the competition in the last-16 stage.

Leading a team adorned with stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar, a first place in Ligue 1 appears to be insufficient to quell supporters’ anger over its failure to perform in Europe.

What was said?

The statement issued by the Collectif Ultra Paris begins, “The unacceptable and inevitable gloom that we feared and which we saw has unfortunately been met.”

“When your season starts in February and you play domestic competitions at walking pace, how can you have the mindset to move mountains?

“How can you have a real game plan when your squad is a bunch of ‘stars’ who barely complement each other?

“How can a coach be the respected leader of the changing room when he clearly isn’t the one making the right decisions?

“How can you rebuild a squad when perpetual options can happily look at their contracts with such a comfortable salary?”

The Collectif’s statement continues to demand al-Khelaifi’s exit, confirming that: “We don’t have a short memory. We know what our return is for President Nasser al-Khelaifi, but it’s not clear. that he is not the man for the job.

“The current state of the club requires a complete reorganization at all levels and the daily presence of its president.”

Al-Khelaifi under pressure

The current president took over as head of Qatar Sports Investments’ new owners in 2011, and oversaw an unprecedented run of massive spending and domestic success at the club.

The Champions League title, however, remains elusive, with Wednesday’s collapse the latest blow for PSG.

Al-Khelaifi was left angry at the elimination, even attempting to break into the referee’s dressing room after the match in Madrid, denying the first goal for an alleged violation in the build-up to Karim Benzema. to protest their failure.
