Pubs across the British Isles are enjoying free drinks, courtesy of musician Paul Heaton, who is celebrating his 60th birthday.
The former Housemartins and The Beautiful South artist announced on Saturday that he would be putting money behind bars in 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland in exchange for his intended tour.
Heaton tweeted, “To celebrate my 60th birthday (on Monday 9 May) I basically wanted to do another cycling tour, performing in 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland.”

“However, due to the delay in recording due to the pandemic, I have had to postpone these plans for the time being.
“Instead, I have decided that the next best way to celebrate this coming of age is to pick 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland and place a certain amount behind each bar.
“Hopefully that day will bring people together, while recognizing that the many people who have bought my records or shown me support over the years can make do with a wee party as we come out of Covid and the potential financial affect conflicts.”
On Monday, Heaton retweeted photos of several establishments where people were raising glasses for him.
The Fall drummer Simon Wolstencroft tweeted: “Happy 60th birthday to you @PaulHeatonSolo thanks for the drink.”

“That’s lovely, enjoy your pint,” replied Heaton.
