DENVER ( Associated Press) — Albert Pujols and Nolan Arenado held home on Wednesday and combined for seven hits in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 9-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Colombian Jose Quintana made his second excellent start for the Cardinals, supported by the batting of Dominican Pujols and Arenado, who hit the producer in a five-run attack during the first innings.
In the sixth, the two sluggers hammered their home runs 8–2 in a row. Pujols had four hits and was a triple away from completing the cycle.
Quintana (4-5) conceded two runs in seven hits. He scored six runs in his second quality start since arriving on August 1 from Pittsburgh.
Arjona’s lefty has allowed two runs and eight hits in 12 innings for St. Louis, with 13 strikes and four walks.
Kyle Freeland (7-8) was the loser, giving away 10 hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings.
For the Cardinals, Dominican Pajoules scored 5-4 and scored two runs. Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 4-2 with two RBIs.
For the Rockies, Cuban Jose Iglesias scored 4-2 with one run and two RBIs. Venezuela’s Elias Diaz scored 3-1, Jonathan Daza 4-2 scored two runs. Dominican Alehuris Monteiro 4-2 with a run.
