Lula promises to talk to Biden about the UN Security Council

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva promised on Tuesday to hold talks with his American counterpart Joe Biden on the United Nations Security Council amid the conflicts shaking the world.

“I’ve been talking about the Security Council since 2003 and will be talking to President Joe Biden about it,” Lula wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

He felt it was “necessary to have countries that can mediate in conflicts with nations that are not at war, such as Brazil.”

The Labor Party founder insisted that “our war must be against hunger and against unemployment”.

Official sources assure that Lula will attend the UN General Assembly in New York in September.

As is tradition, the former trade unionist will deliver the opening speech of the meeting. There is also an expectation that Lula and Biden will evaluate a bilateral meeting on a parallel agenda to the gathering.

At this appointment with the democratic politician, the Brazilian ruler could raise the issue of the Security Council.

He recently stated that this body is “losing legitimacy” and still doesn’t understand how some members engage in warfare.

In his speech to the UN, Lula wants to talk about economic and environmental issues.

He valued the proposal of a reference currency for exports as important and made it clear that “this is not against the dollar but benefits the development of our countries”.

Lula wished the Brics a level of equality with the European Union and the United States at their August 22 summit in Johannesburg.

«The Brics are not an antipole to the G7 (Alliance of the Seven, consisting of Germany, Canada, the USA, France, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom) and also not to the G20 (the 20 industrialized and emerging countries), nor against anyone», explained the mechanical extortionist.

He specified that the bloc wanted to organize “like the Global South,” “something that didn’t exist before.” “We are important in the global debate because we sit at the negotiating table on an equal footing with the European Union and the United States,” he said. (Source:PL)
