Rams (3-0) vs Cardinals (3-0)
When: 1:05 pm Sunday
where: Sophie Stadium, Inglewood
TV/Radio: Ch. 11, 710 AM, 93.1 FM, 1330 AM (Spanish)
Line: rams 4
Notable injury designations: Rams: RB Darrell Henderson (ribs) is listed as a suspect, but coach Sean McVay said he will play on Friday. WR/PR Tutu Atwell (ill) is suspicious. Cardinals: RG Justin Pugh (back), RT Calvin Beacham (ribs) and backup RT Justin Murray (back) are suspects.
what’s at stake? More than usual for a Rams-Cardinals game. Both teams made unbeaten starts in their first ever NFC West game. Winners will have a first for themselves in one of the deepest divisions in the NFL. If the Cardinals can play the Tough Rams on the road, it means that Arizona is real.
who’s better? Rams. His three opponents have a combined record of 30-18 since the start of 2020; The Cardinals’ victims are 22-36. But Arizona is on the right track in its third season with coaches Cliff Kingsbury and QB Kyler Murray and WR AJ Green and DE JJ Watt aboard.
Matchups to watch: Rams CB Jalen Ramsey vs Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins. Their rivalry dates back to when Ramsey was a Jaguar and Hopkins was a Texan. When asked if he would cover Hopkins specifically, Ramsey was cagey. Hopkins has been placed below his career catch percentage seven times in nine meetings with Ramsey’s teams.
Ram wins if…: If they stop OLB Chandler Jones from rushing QB Matthew Stafford, whose three sacks are the fewest of the passers-by, with his number of attempts. …if they can reduce the undead, a single-threat QB, can stop their running, as they always have. …if they avoid a lull between last week’s win over the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers and Thursday’s game against the rival Seahawks.
Choosing Fantasy: Rams WR Robert Woods. His 57 catches (for 640 yards and two TDs) in eight matches against the Cardinals are his most against any opponent. If Arizona decides to focus on stopping NFC Offensive Player of the Month, WR Cooper Kupp, for September, Woods could be the first to benefit.
Prediction: Rams 31, Cardinals 24. This is the Rams’ third 3-0 start in four years. Right now, it feels less like 2019, when they lost the next three games, and more like 2018, when they kept going 8-0 and 11-1 and the NFC Championship.
