A public defender who was expelled for speaking out against critical racism theory said what happened was worrying and hoped he would win the legal battle he was engaged in.

Critical race theory is a movement in which a person’s race focuses on a defined aspect of their identity as opposed to other traits such as personality traits or achievements. It assumes that race is socially constructed and racism is systematic. Critics say the movement, which supporters claim is aimed at fighting racism, is racist in itself.
As a member of the Public School Council, Maron spoke about the “anti-discrimination training” he received from the Department of Education.
