Representative Benny Thompson says it’s time for Ginny Thomas to speak to the January 6 committee

So far, Ginny Thomas has refrained from answering questions under oath about her involvement in efforts to reverse the 2020 presidential election.

But it appears to be thanks to reports of emails between Thomas and John Eastman, the lawyer who advised former President Donald Trump to contest the election results.

Previously, the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol was hesitant to question Thomas, whose husband is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, but a recent email received by the committee makes an important point, the committee’s chairman. Huh. Benny Thompson (D-Miss.) said Thursday.

“We think it’s time that we, at some point, invite him to speak to the committee,” Thompson said, according to a tweet By Axios reporter Andrew Solander.

Later on Thursday, Thomas told the conservative website Daily Caller that she “can’t wait to clear up the misconceptions” about her involvement.

Still, the existence of the email – which was first reported Wednesday by The Washington Post – made Thomas more involved in trying to reverse Trump’s election defeat than previously known.

It comes on the heels of news that he emailed more than two dozen Republican state lawmakers in Arizona in his attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

Thomas has not commented on the email, and the content and timing of the exchanges have not been disclosed. Despite her efforts, her husband has repeatedly denied recusing himself from matters relating to January 6.

In fact, Clarence Thomas was the only justice who supported Trump’s effort to block the release of White House documents and communications sought by the House committee investigating his attempt to reverse the election.

Not surprisingly, Twitter users had thoughts to share about Thompson’s statement, suggesting that Ginny Thomas could face a subpoena if she doesn’t voluntarily speak to the committee.

Some acknowledged the challenges facing the Committee in relation to Ginny Thomas.
