Republicans criticize Biden for not starving undocumented immigrant babies

Republicans on Thursday criticized the Biden administration for providing food to infants detained in its custody – effectively suggesting the children should go hungry because of their immigration status.

“The Biden Administration Is Illegally Sending Pallets Of Baby Formula To Mothers And Their Babies While American Moms And Kids Are Not Getting Baby Formula,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) said in a press conference, “This is completely unacceptable, and it needs to end now.”

“Baby Formula Should Go To Americans Before Illegal,” Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) wrote on twitter, “It shouldn’t be said.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) accused The administration “delivered vital supplies to illegal immigrants before the people they swore to serve.”

Greene referenced photos of baby formula at the limit facility, possibly a . referring to Washington Examiner Articles About immigrants detained at the border receiving baby formula amid a nationwide shortage. Nehals also tweeted a link to the article. The tester refers to the immigrants as the “lucky group” and cites a post by representative Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) about “thousands and thousands of containers of baby formula” being sent over the border. Cammack said he received a photo of the delivery from a border agent.

Cammack called on people to demand the Biden administration “take the baby formula that they basically took out of the supply chain and put it back in the damn shops for American babies.”

The lack of formula is a crisis. Babies need either breast milk or formula for nutrition until at least 1 year of age, and breast milk is not always an option. Doctors recommend diluting milk or formula, switching to cow’s milk, or making homemade formula. So the need for Americans to use baby formula is very real.

But children in U.S. government custody also require alimony, and their parents don’t have the option of leaving custody to buy supplies. If the government did not provide food to the children in its custody, they would starve to death.

The lack of baby formula has become a popular way for Republicans to attack President Joe Biden, although few lawmakers from either party have offered an actual solution to the issue. Immigration is also a popular line of aggression, so it should come as no surprise that the authority would blame immigrants for stealing food from American children.

The right has screened undocumented immigrants over the years, and America has a disturbing record of neglecting or abusing children in its care. In one of the most infamous examples, former President Donald Trump deliberately separated children from their parents in an effort to prevent migrants from coming to the United States. For years, Republican lawmakers have blocked efforts to grant legal status to undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children. Republican politicians have suggested immigration detention centers, including child detention centers, are very good,

Right’s claims about baby formula for undecided children fit the narrative that Democrats are encouraging unauthorized immigration by not being rude to the undecided. Stephen Miller, a former senior Trump adviser who supported many of that administration’s harsh immigration policies, said the Biden administration was “changing the rare formula to subsidize illegal immigration on a large scale.”

Cammack insisted that his screed against infant formula for unspecified babies was actually part of a pro-babies agenda, and accused the Biden administration of helping smuggle immigrant babies by being insufficiently strict on the border. Put it.

“It’s not the fault of these kids,” she said. “My heart breaks for these kids.”

Just eating them isn’t enough.
