Republicans push for baseless fraud allegations before California recall

Sacramento, California-California Republicans are trying to contain a fire of their own making the day before the end of the vote, because the Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s removal election ended, and they persuaded voters to vote on Tuesday, even with party leaders Promotion of unproven campaigns being manipulated or damaged by misconduct.

If the removal is successful, Larry Elder, one of the main Republican candidates seeking to replace Newsom, has stated that he believes that “pranks are likely to occur, just like the 2020 election.” His campaign website There is a link to the “Stop California Fraud” website where people can report suspicious voting activity or sign a petition calling for a special legislative session to investigate the pending election.

On Monday, former President Donald Trump continued to promote the lies of his defeat in the 2020 election. He issued a statement saying: “Does anyone really believe that the California recall election was not rigged?”

This kind of information poses problems for Republican officials, who encourage everyone to vote, while also promoting claims that the California election is not credible. Harmeet Dhillon, a lawyer and a congresswoman on the Republican National Committee of California, said that she and her husband made a video showing how they voted via email and urged everyone to do the same.

But Dhillon also stated that she cannot say whether the California election will be safe and secure, and elaborated on many of the issues that she and a group of lawyers who oversaw the election witnessed.

Dhillon said: “After this election, there will be a lot of problems and potential lawsuits regarding this hasty handling of the people’s votes and their voting rights.” “I think people must go out and vote. We must record the problems, we Lawsuits must be filed against these issues.”

Most of the Republican criticism of the California election has focused on the widespread use of mail-in ballots, which have been automatically sent to all active registered voters for state elections since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Even before the pandemic, the vast majority of California voters voted by mail, and there was no widespread voter fraud.

According to data from Political Data Corporation, a data company that cooperates with the Democratic Party, as of Saturday, 7.8 million votes have been cast, accounting for nearly 35% of registered voters. Mike Sanchez, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Registration Office, said that mail-in voting is “trustworthy, safe and secure.”

“There are extensive agreements to ensure the security and verification of all mailed ballots,” Sanchez said. “These claims ignore and distort these safeguards. Therefore, their information may confuse voters and hinder participation.”

The Republican Party’s dilemma is similar to that of last year’s presidential election, when many in the party worried that Trump’s claims that expanded mail voting during the pandemic would cause widespread fraud would backfire. They worry that his message will persuade many Republicans to stay at home.

In California, the Republican Party needs all the help it can get.

The party has only 24% of registered voters, while the Democratic Party has 46.5%. Those who register to vote without a political party are roughly equivalent to registered Republicans, but their votes are usually the same as those of Democrats. Since 2006, Republicans have not held all state offices since 2006 when Arnold Schwarzenegger won the governor’s reelection.

Dhillon pointed to a problem that occurred in Los Angeles over the weekend, which is one of the evidence that exacerbated voter distrust. In the Woodland Hills community, some people who came to vote were told that they had voted.

“Regardless of whether there is a naive explanation for this, the rumors are based on facts and spread like wildfire. These facts are errors in the vote in Los Angeles County. People see this on the Internet and think it is not worth voting,” Dhillon said. .

The Los Angeles County Registration Office stated that the error was caused by certain settings on the computer used to register voters before the ballots were issued. The office stated that the affected people can make provisional ballots, which serve as placeholders before determining the eligibility of voters.

Republican officials said they are working hard to have voting observers in every county to monitor polling locations and county registries, where clerks will verify and count votes. State Republicans also urge voters to report suspicious voting activities to the party.

Last weekend, the Elder campaign promoted allegations of fraud, pointing to a website that urged people to sign a petition stating that he had lost in the unfinished election.

Newsom strategist Sean Clegg said: “They are trying to throw acid batteries on our constitution and electoral regulations.”

Not all Republicans accept these claims. John Cox, a businessman running to replace Newsom, said the voter fraud problem was “another distracting factor.”

“Frankly, all the talk about invalid elections is a dead end because it will cause some people to decide not to vote,” Cox said during a campaign outside the Capitol on Monday.

In addition to the Republicans’ claims, a group of election security and computer science experts expressed concerns about California’s electoral system. Their warning did not stem from claims of widespread fraud. Instead, they publicly released a copy of the election management system, which is similar to the system that conducts elections in 40 of the 58 counties in California.

These copies were released last month at an event organized by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who is an ally of Trump and made unconfirmed claims about last year’s election.

California Secretary of State Shirley Weber said that concerns about election security are “inaccurate.” The state’s chief election official stated that California has “the nation’s most stringent voting system testing, usage procedures, and security requirements.”

All ballots, whether in person, by mail or drop-in box, will be cast on paper ballots. If you have any questions about the counting of votes in any county, you can count the votes manually afterwards.
