Rialto girl kidnapped, 17, reunited with family after being caught against will in New York City

A 24-year-old man accused of kidnapping and imprisoning a 17-year-old girl from Rialto has been arrested in New York City and the girl was returned to her family in Southern California, Rialto police announced Thursday, May 12.

The Rialto Police Department said in a press release that Eliza Clark was arrested on Friday, May 6, on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, injury to a minor, strangulation, assault on a police officer and multiple weapons. Police said that in addition to the charges against Clark in New York, Rialto police recommended a number of charges to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, including contact with a minor with intent to perform obscene acts and meeting a minor for obscene purposes. Officials said that on April 30, Rialto police were notified of a missing 17-year-old girl whose parents were concerned because the girl’s friends revealed she had been conversing with Clark online. Police said the girl had not yet returned home as of May 2 and that Rialto detectives had started a search.

Officials said detectives were able to obtain a New York City area phone number believed to be Clark’s, but were unable to contact the phone’s owner via call and text. Rialto police said that on May 5, detectives received a message from the girl on Clark’s suspicious phone saying she needed help returning home and that Clark was refusing to let her go, Rialto police said. .

Police said detectives arrived at the New York Police Department with information about Clark’s possible address at the 1600 block of Amsterdam Avenue. Officials said NYPD personnel attempted to contact Clark’s home, but were unable to contact anyone there.

The next day, he insisted that NYPD officers attempt to contact the home again because they believed the victim was in danger.

Police said that at 7:47 p.m., the NYPD contacted Rialto police that the girl had been rescued and that Clark had been taken into custody.

The woman returned to her home in Rialto with her parents at around 9:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, officials said.
