Pittsburgh, Pa. ( Associated Press) – Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom hit two-run homers while Alfonso Rivas added a Grand Slam from a position player in the ninth inning on Wednesday night, helping the Chicago Cubs lose 14-5. Pittsburgh Pirates.
Limited to just two runs in the first two matches of the series, the Cubs scored seven runs in the second innings.
Chicago loaded the bases and Jared Eikhoff (0-1) hit Rivas with a pitch. Rafael Ortega scored two more runs with a double at the plate and Patrick Wisdom added a two-run single, setting the stage for the hap.
Hap hits a first-pitch fastball behind the center-field fence. The Pittsburgh native has been batting .380 with eight RBIs and three homers so far this month.

Eichoff made his first appearance of the season and conceded 10 runs for 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. He became the first Pirates to be allowed 10 touchdowns on his debut with the team. He also conceded 10 runs in his maiden debut with the New York Mets in 2021.
Chicago starter Keegan Thompson (7-2) played six innings and gave four hits. He scored seven runs and dropped a run on Diego Castillo’s home run in the second innings.
For the Cubs, Mexican Rivas scored 4-2 with 5 RBI and two runs. Ortega of Venezuela scored 5-3 with two RBIs and two runs; Wilson Contreras 5-0. Dominican Jonathan Willer scored two runs at 5-2. Puerto Rican Nelson Velázquez scored another goal without an official turn. Brazilian Yan Gomes 5-1.
For the Pirates, Venezuelan Castillo scored 5-1 with an RBI and two runs. Dominican O’Neill Cruz produced a 5–0 one and scored one. Puerto Rican Michael Perez 4-1.
