CDMX.- One of the most iconic villains or “monsters” in Hollywood cinema is undoubtedly Freddy Krueger. That serial killer with the charred skin and razor-sharp gloves.
The actor behind the character, Robert Englund, has brought him to life in eight films and even a television series. After playing this criminal for almost 40 years, the actor finally retires from the saga.
His idea to stop playing Kruger began in 2010, when the remake of A Nightmare on Hell Street was released. In that film, Jackie Earle Haley played Kruger, which was trashed by fans.
“Jackie’s so good, he’s a wonderful actor, so I don’t think that’s why he failed. I’ve always thought Freddy was portrayed as a child murderer. So when they cast him as a child molester in the remake, Changed it, so it wasn’t Freddy I think.
“By taking the character to such a dark place, they no longer left room to exploit Freddy’s personality and charisma,” Englund explained to Variety.
The actor is currently promoting the documentary Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, which explores his career in the horror genre. There he assured that, because Freddy is a physically demanding character at age 75, he no longer sees himself playing him again.
Instead, Englund nods and nods to the actor fans of the franchise have wanted as a replacement for years: Kevin Bacon.
“I know Kevin respects the genre and he’s a tremendously physical actor. I think the way he moves and the way he’s silent in his movies, Kevin (as Freddy) is very interesting.” Will happen.”
