The birth certificate is required to fulfill certain procedures of the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration, and Immigration (Saime); a 2001 data collection explains why.
It should be noted that the birth certificate is the most important document because it is the document that registers a person at birth.
It contains data such as the child’s name and his parents’ names, date, and place of birth.
Also, it has specific file and registration numbers.
With the new Saime system, all appointments are processed through the entity’s online portal.
Getting to know Saime for the first time
To get a Venezuelan ID for the first time, you must have the birth certificate available, whether it is an ID for a child or an adult.
This is because when requesting an appointment through the Saime page, a form must be filled out that requires specific data from the aforementioned document of the person opting for identification.
Apart from basic information such as date of birth and state where you were born, you must add the Civil Registry, Registry Book, Record Number, and Year of Registration.
These data can be found in the registration document.
Once the system processes the information, the user can select the date for the appointment of this specific procedure.
It is important to remember that the child must be present with his representative (parent or legal guardian) to complete the identification process.
On the day of the appointment, the representative must submit a certified copy of the minor’s birth certificate and a photocopy of his current ID.
The identification document costs nothing and is valid for 10 years.
Once it has expired (or lost, stolen, damaged, etc.), the citizen can request a new one and there is no need to bring the birth certificate to the renewal appointment.
