LIVERPOOL, England ( Associated Press) – Mohamed Salah on Friday extended his contract with Liverpool for three years, keeping him at the English Premier League club until 2025.
The Egyptian star has entered the final year of his current contract. Negotiations for a renewal had stalled during the last season.
The economic demands of the 30-year-old striker were like a fence. But a delegation from Liverpool traveled to meet the player, who is on holiday in the Mediterranean, and reached a deal that would make Salah the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
“I am good and very excited to win trophies with the club. It is a very happy day for everyone,” Salah told the Liverpool website. “The upgrade took a while, but we’ve got it done, so now we just have to focus on the next thing.”
“I think you can see that the team has always been on the move for the last five or six years,” he said.
Salah has scored 156 goals in 254 games for the “Reds” since arriving in 2017, and is key to winning the league’s Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and Cup titles.
“If you look at the time I arrived, the club wasn’t winning much, but I think I told them I had come to win the trophy,” Salah said. “I think we have a lot of trophies together and I think we can do it again.”
Liverpool captured the FA Cup and League Cup titles last season but fell behind Manchester City in the Premier League and lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
