Sales and purchases of homes extended their fall in November by 15.1%

In November, the sale and purchase of houses registered a decrease of 15.1% compared to the same month in 2022, for a total of 46,888 operations, the lowest figure for this month since 2020, in the context of higher interest rates. reported this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With this year-on-year decrease, which increases the four points registered in October (-11.1%), the sale and purchase of houses have ten months of negative year-on-year rates.

The year-over-year decline in home sales in November was due to a fall in second apartment transactions and a decline in new home sales.

Specifically, the sale and purchase of used houses fell by 16% in the penultimate month of last year, amounting to 38,015 operations, while transactions made in new apartments decreased by 11.1% year-on-year, in 8,873 operations.

93.1% of homes moved by sale in November 2023 were freehold homes, and 6.9% were protected. Overall, the purchase and sale of free homes decreased by 14.4% year-on-year, to 43,654 transactions, while the purchase and sale of subsidized residences decreased by 23.5%, to a total of 3,234 transactions.

At the inter-monthly rate (November 2023 to October of the same year), the sale of houses increased by 2.1%, while in the first eleven months of 2023 it decreased by 9.3%, with a fall of 4.3% in the case of new houses and 10.4% in the case of used houses.
