San Leandro Unified School District Trustee Christian Rodriguez was killed after being struck by a vehicle over the weekend – days after he was elected president of the school board.
SLUSD Superintendent Mike McLaughlin said in a statement that Rodriguez was hit by a car on Friday while he was driving with his wife Marina and was in critical condition.
McLaughlin announced on Monday that Rodriguez had died. He is survived by his wife and his three children, his mother and extended family members.

“As you can only imagine, his tragic, untimely death is very devastating to our entire San Leandro community,” McLaughlin said in a statement. “Christian has been an essential member of our SLUSD family for many years and was also a dear, cherished friend to many of us.”
The San Leandro Police Department could not immediately be reached for comment.
According to McLaughlin, Rodriguez was elected president of the school board last week and was first elected to the board in 2018. Rodriguez and Marina had been living in San Leandro since 2007.
According to police, Rodriguez died after being hit by a car last month of 72-year-old Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan.
