Saratoga Springs Mayor’s Deputy Recruitment, Commissioner Positions ‘Open’

SARATOGA SPRINGS — The quartet of Democrats who recently won jobs as mayor and three commissioners aren’t looking forward to the appointment of their respective deputys, and they’ve promised a December 3 cutoff to accept applications. prescribed what would be an “open” recruitment process.

“We don’t have any employees,” Kim said in an interview, “so it’s trying to do that while I’m trying to do my regular job (as a lawyer) and talk to a lot of people like that. Also meeting those who clearly and understandably want to meet with the new mayor is the only way we can do that.”

The city’s commissioner government divides up the roles. For example, the mayor’s office oversees human resources, and Kim said that the city’s HR staff has been “absolutely great” to provide Kim and her colleagues with information on pay, benefits, as well as clarify that the deputy must reside in Saratoga County.

Kim did not directly answer questions about whether Mayor Meg Kelly, who did not seek re-election, was helping her transition.

“We’re hanging out together,” said Kim, who said he had already made connections with some of the city’s employees from the time he served as commissioner of public safety.

“I met the staff on Monday. I’ve had experience at City Hall and it’s been a slightly different staffing since then. But he gave me a very optimistic view of what we’re capable of because it’s a good employee.”
