SATSE is demanding the renewal of 7,000 temporary contracts that are expiring

Professionals from the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) and delegates from the Nursing Union (SATSE, throughout Andalusia gathered to demand that the Health Administration renew the contracts of more than 7,000 public health workers whose contracts expire on January 31, 2024.

SATSE demands that SAS fulfill its commitments to renew all contracts for what were originally called COVID reinforcements but are currently essential for the operation of health centers. They should have been offered on January 15 for 11 months, but without explanation from the administration, the renovation has been paralyzed.

The Nurses Union emphasizes that these staff reinforcements allow public health centers to operate with normality, despite the fact that there is a lack of staff. Because of this, the union organization emphasized that it would be disastrous to do without them at this time, especially at a time like the current one when the pressure to care for the centers increases due to the incidence of respiratory pathologies.

In addition, increasing the uncertainty about the changes, as reported by SATSE, is the almost zero coverage of medical leave, vacation, and legal permits, which sets a critical panorama for the assistance and occupational health of professionals.

According to SATSE, changing sick leave, permits, and reductions leads to an unsustainable situation for employees. professionals tired of terrible working conditions where they are subjected and disappointed by the lack of commitment of the administration to respond to this serious situation.

In fact, these conditions have also become the subject of SATSE complaints to the Provincial Labor and Social Security Inspections, and in some cases, they have begun to develop procedures to analyze psychosocial risks and ensure the safety of professionals and patients from the lack of nurses and physiotherapists in SAS hospitals.

Change schedule

Along with the protests, the Nursing Union has sent an email to the General Directorate of Personnel of the SAS to express great concern about the problems caused by the 11-month contracts and to demand an immediate call for a meeting of the Central Commission of the Single Employment Exchange to respond to all affected professionals who are waiting to sign these contracts.

In its letter, which has yet to receive a response from the Administration, SATSE requested that they detail the data corresponding to the number of category, central and provincial contracts and that a calendar of renewal offers for these contracts Without it, it is impossible to guarantee the movement of health centers throughout Andalusia.

The Nursing Union concluded by insisting on the adoption of measures to reduce the high temporary deficit affecting Andalusian health centers. Some measures include, according to SATSE, the change of temporary structural contracts to interim and long-term contracts and better job offers.
