“The class for 9 to 12 year olds is an introduction to topics related to relationships, puberty, the body and sexuality. We focus on how healthy versus unhealthy friendships and romantic relationships work, how puberty works, consent and the individual. limits, the science of defining ‘sex’, and discusses why people may or may not choose to engage in sexual activity,” says Jane Mason, owner of sex shop Winkwink in Bellingham and of the School Board of Bellingham School District. The director told KTTH radio host Jason Rantz.

Mason announced that four, three-hour sex education classes would be held at Winkwink next month, as part of a program called “Uncring Academy.” The classes Mason will teach are divided by age, with one grade for 9 to 12 year olds and another 13 to 17 year old.

Class topics include, “What is sex? Types of single and participatory sexual activities,” “Sexual anatomy for pleasure and reproduction,” “Gender and sexual identity,” “Safe sex practices for all types of sexual activity,” among others. Classes set out states that “workshops are divided by age and presentation of subjects will vary for developmental suitability (sic).”

Winkwink is described as a “female-owned, identity-inclusive sex shop” that is “sex-positive, body-positive, and gender-affirming”. Winkwink did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, but Mason defended Rantz teaching “safe sex practices” to 9- to 12-year-olds in a comment. She said that the lesson is one that “is not usually covered as a core topic in this course, except when it deals with consent, communication, and security.”

Mason also described sex as having no set definition, arguing that one person’s definition of sex may differ from another’s.

“While some people consider sex to be only when a penis goes into the vagina, ‘sex’ can actually be any activity a person does with themselves or others to get aroused,” she said. “There’s no such thing as “real” sex, and it’s okay if your definition of sex is different from someone else’s.”

According to Winkwink’s website, Mason is a certified sex coach and educator, and holds other classes and coaching lessons to help people “work toward your intimacy goals.”

Mason made headlines earlier this year when Winkwink announced a “queer youth open mic night” for 0 to 18-year-olds at a sex shop, calling it a place to celebrate “young pride” and ” Billed as “a platform for young queer voices”. in our community. ,

Mason serves as the board of directors for the Bellingham school district, but upcoming sex education classes will be held in her personal capacity as a local business owner, and not as a school official, Rantz pointed out. Similarly open mic night was not endorsed by the school district.
