PHILADELPHIA ( Associated Press) — Kyle Schwarber twice homed to a season-high 25 in the National League, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 11-0 on Tuesday night.
JT Realmuto hit a two-run homer and added a sacrificial fly for the Phillies, who won for the fourth time in five games. Alec Bohm had two hits and three RBIs, while Nick Castellanos had two RBIs.
Schwarber did not receive notice that June had ended and July had begun. Last NL Player of the Month reminded Philadelphia of injured star Bryce Harper in June when he hit 12 homers to put his team in contention for a wild-card postseason berth.
And Schwarber hasn’t slowed down in July. Neither is Phillies.
Against Panama’s Paolo Espino (0–2), Schwarber started the game with a home run. He has done so for the third time this season and the 16th in his career.
His shot into center ground sent Victor Robles hanging over the fence in a vain attempt to get the ball.
In the third inning, Schwarber added a single shot that dropped the ball into the second deck of the right-field bleachers.
The victory went to Dominican Christopher Sanchez (1-1), who bowled a two-hit ball in five scoreless innings.
For the nationals, Cesar Hernández of Venezuela 4–0, Keibert Ruiz 4–0, Ehire Adriánza 3–1. Dominican Machel Franco 3-0, Victor Robles 1-0. Cuba Yadil Hernandez 3-1.
For the Phillies, Dominican Yairo Munoz 1-1.
