A 16-year-old girl who died on 13 December in a road accident in Menifi that killed her brother was identified by the Riverside County coroner on Wednesday 20 October as Alia Girard from San Jacinto.
Girard and the legendary Aries Girard, 1 year old, were killed in an accident that occurred at 17:20 on Domenigoni Boulevard near Lindenberger Road.
Alia Girard was an undergraduate at Mountain Heights Academy, where she took a distance learning program, said Don Lawrence, a spokeswoman for the San Jacinto Unified School District. Lawrence said the two teachers were offered counseling after the girl’s death.
Police said the collision involved a Chevrolet Silverado towing a trailer and a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Both were heading west to Domenigoni when a Ford driven by an 18-year-old Corona resident pulled out of the lane and crashed into a Chevrolet. Police said the Chevrolet rolled over and two children were ejected.
According to Menifi police captain Dave Gutierrez, no child has been adequately restrained as required by law.
“The Menifi Police Department would like to remind everyone to ensure that all passengers are always properly restrained while driving in a vehicle,” Gutierrez said. “According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 47% of passenger car passengers killed in 2019 were not contained.”
An 18-year-old man was cited on suspicion of manslaughter involving a car. He is in custody and has not been charged. There was no one else in the clash, Gutierrez said.
A relative of the Girard family created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family.
