As part of the actions to guarantee the efficient use of water, the head of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Agricultural Development (SEPADA), José Alfredo Bermúdez Beltrán, was presented to the authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) in Baja California Sur, the Water Plan of the State, which aims to develop actions and establish works that help the proper use of the important liquid.
“In our state, there is record rainfall and we do not have enough infrastructure in dams and recharge works, there are only 6 and only one is used for storage,” he stressed.
He explained that in the entity there are 39 aquifers of which 9 are over-exploited, mainly those that contribute to the development of cities and tourism; Likewise, he added that there are aquifers with severe salinization, which prevents water extraction; He said that in the Santo Domingo Valley, 30 million cubic meters of concessions have been registered, an action that represents a big problem.
Bermúdez Beltrán explained that one of the strategies to guarantee water to the citizens is the definition of the infrastructure plan, the promotion of water balances, the construction of recharge works, studies of the comprehensive management plan of the basin. as well as updating hydraulic balances to determine water availability. .
Finally, in the case of agriculture, he emphasized that an alternative to conserve water is to convert the community of farmers in their crops to other more profitable ones, which will generate more economic impact. for rural families, jobs for society, and need less water. .
