Sony has just unveiled the Xperia 5 V, the new generation of the Japanese company’s high-end device, which traditionally comes after the Xperia 1 (this year we already analyzed the Sony Xperia 1 V). It retains many of its older brother’s characteristics; however, we saw a strange movement on the cameras: We went from three to two. Next, we’ll tell you all about the Xperia 5 V.

Compact spirit without losing the Xperia essence
You just have to take a look to know which phone it is. And Sony has been betting on that for years Due to the 21:9 aspect ratio of the panel, it is a very elongated format, and nothing changes with this Xperia 5 V either.
Materials are just as premium as its older brother, with glass on the front (protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2), glass on the back, and an aluminum frame. In addition, it is IP68 certified, and the surface is matte.
It’s literally like a smaller Xperia 1 V. The screen has a diagonal of 6.1 inches, which this model, with its height of 154 millimeters, can lift into the compact class. The panel is an OLED panel with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and an impressive pixel density of 449 pixels per inch.
Although the use of the front is not particularly spectacular, it is due to the upper and lower frames in which the speakers are located. And inside, we have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 8GB of RAM.
It’s the most powerful SoC currently available for Android phones, and we’ve already confirmed its benefits in phones like the OnePlus 11, the Galaxy S23, the Xiaomi 13, or the Xperia 1 V itself. Storage is a single 128GB configuration that we can expand via microSD.
In the area of the battery, despite its compactness, no savings were made in terms of capacity 5,000 mAh at 30W charge and both reverse charging and wireless charging capabilities. And the system is the classic, clean version of of Android 13 from the Xperia, although certain applications are focused on taking advantThethe terminal’s hardware and its ecosystem.
Two cameras instead of three, but promising thanks to the increase in megapixels
In the camera section, we see a curious decision. From the Xperia 5 IV’s three 12-megapixel sensors (main, wide-angle, and telephoto), we switch to two sensors. The main model has a resolution of up to 48 megapixels and a size of 1/1.35 inch and 1.12 micron pixels. In fact, the sensor has 52 megapixels, but these 48 are the effective ones, and the resulting photos are 12 megapixe1.12-micron
It featThe stabilization and f/1.9 lenses, and according to Sony, This allows us to create a digital 2x without loss. The wide-angle, on the other hand, maintains 12 megapixels and features f/2.2 lenses. On the front, we have the same sensor as last year, a 12-megapixel f/2.0 with a focal length of 24mm.
Both the main and rear cameras allow us to record 4K videos, reaching 120 fps with the main camera and staying at 30 fps with the front camera. Of particular note is that the main camera has a ZEISS treatment that improves reflections and contrasts in difficult situations.
Versions, price, and launch of the Sony Xperia 5 V
The Sony Xperia 5 V will be available in black, white, and blue at the end of September. What’s odd is that Sony offers an “approximate” price. As we can read in his press release, it will be 999 euros, but they already warn that the price may vary by country. Yes, for Spain, we expect to keep this price of 999 euros, although the official Spanish website still says “price not available”.
