NEW YORK — Police and federal agents arrived in Washington Heights on Wednesday morning as law enforcement officials say they are targeting a drug and arms-trafficking organization operating in the Manhattan neighborhood.

Homeland Security investigative agents and New York City police detectives arrested a dozen suspects and searched several locations linked to the drug cartel, officials said.

Officials said some searches and arrests were also made in New Jersey.

Most of the activity Wednesday morning appeared to be around businesses along 174th Street. Police were also seen at a building on Audubon Avenue.

Law enforcement officials said some of the suspects are believed to have ties to the Trinitario gang, a notoriously violent group.
