LOS ANGELES – Kevin Spacey and his production companies are due to pay the studio behind House of Cards more than $ 30 million in damages caused by his firing for sexual misconduct, according to an arbitration award issued last Monday.

In a document filed with the Los Angeles Supreme Court asking for a judge’s approval of the decision, the arbitrators found that Spacey had violated the professional conduct requirements of his contract by “exhibiting certain conduct towards multiple crew members in each of the five seasons, which he was filming. and executive producer of House of Cards ”.

MRC, the studio behind House of Cards, had to fire Spacey, stop production on season 6, rewrite it to remove Spacey’s main character, and cut it from 13 episodes to 8 episodes to meet the deadline, resulting in tens of millions of views. … losses, the document says.

“The safety of our people, equipment and work environment is of the utmost importance to MRC and therefore we have decided to insist on accountability,” the MRC said in a statement Monday.

A spokesman for Spacey did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment. His lawyers argued that the actor’s actions were not a significant factor in the show’s losses.

The decision came after more than three years of legal battle and an eight-day evidence hearing, which was kept secret from the public, along with the rest of the dispute.

Spacey appealed the decision of three more private arbitrators, who ruled in the plaintiffs’ favor, making the decision final and public on Monday.

“The MRC defended its position, persevered in the case and in the end achieved the right result,” – said in a statement by the plaintiff’s lawyer Michael Kamp.

The 62-year-old Oscar-winner’s career came to an abrupt halt in late 2017 as the #MeToo movement took off.

Actor Anthony Rapp, who has starred on Broadway and in the movies, as well as Star Trek: Discovery on television, said Spacey sexually harassed him when he was 14 at a party in the 1980s.
