TORONTO ( Associated Press) — George Springer hit home twice against his former team, Jose Berios and the Toronto Blue Jays as they beat Houston 2-1 on Saturday to break the Astros’ season-long winning streak to four.
In the first, Springer’s leadoff homer was the 46th of his career. Starting with DH, Springer rejoined in the third, 19th multiple-homer game of his career.
Berios (2-0) conceded seven hits, took five hits and walked two. Adam Simber played an innings, Tim Mezza played 1 1-3 innings and Jordan Romano threw a perfect ninth for his 10th defense on 11 occasions.
Yordan Alvarez defeated Berios to finish fourth, sixth. Luis García (1-1) allowed five hits in six innings.
Toronto improved to 8-2 in the one-run game. The Blue Jays haven’t lost back-to-back games since September 24, 2021, an MLB-best 29-game stretch.

Marte led eight for his first homer of the season by making a 1–1 change in the right field bullpen from Miles Mikolas (1–1). A later, Ahmed sent a 1-1 fastball into the left field bullpen for his second homer.
Kelly (2-1) played seven scoreless innings, giving the Cardinals four strikeouts and two hits with a hit batsman. He has allowed a total of four earned runs in his first five starts. Ian Kennedy finished ninth and earned his first save.
Mikolas played a 7/1/3 innings, allowing four hits and no walks with 7 strikeouts in his fifth start of 2022.
Twins 9, Rays 1

Carlos Correa had three hits for the Twins, who have won eight out of nine. Cody Stashak (2-0) won in relief.
McClanahan (1-2) scored a career-high 11 runs in five innings, conceding three off four hits, including two homers from Garlick. The left-hander leads the American League with 42 strikes.
Taylor Walls hit his first home run in Twins starter Chris Archer’s second inning, one of four hits for Tampa Bay that halted a three-game winning streak.
Guardians 3, Athletics 1
Oakland, Calif. ( Associated Press) — Pinch-hitter Richie Palacios scored a two-for-two in the ninth inning as Cleveland took advantage of a critical error to beat Oakland.
It was in the Cleveland ninth with a runner-up 1-all for the first time, when Oscar Mercado hit a potential double-play grounder to rookie second baseman Nick Allen, who mistook it for an error. Palacios hit a huge double from Danny Jimenez (1-1) on the pitch 3-1.
Nick Sandlin (1–1) won and Emmanuel Claes made his fourth save for the Guardians, who secured a second straight victory after a seven-game loss.
Sheldon Newey made home the A’s, who have lost five of seven.
Giants 9, Nationals 3
SAN FRANCISCO ( Associated Press) – Jason Vosler delivered three hits to Homerde and Darin Roof as San Francisco overcame the absence of multiple players due to COVID-19 and beat Washington.
Giants starter Logan Webb (3-1) delivered a career-high 11 hits in six innings. He scored three runs, scored one run and conceded three runs.
The Giants broke a two-game skid with their sixth win in eight matches.
National starter Joan Aidan (1-4) conceded four runs in four-plus innings of a four-hit ball. He scored five runs and scored three runs as the Nationals suffered a defeat for the ninth time in 10 matches.
White Sox 4, Angels 0
CHICAGO ( Associated Press) — Tim Anderson and Louis Robert made home runs to help Chicago end the Angels’ six-game winning streak.
Josh Harrison, AJ Pollock and Anderson took two hits each for the White Sox, who won for the second time in 12 games.
Vince Velasquez (1-2) held the Angels in four hits and a six in 5 2/3 innings.
Tyler Wade had two hits for the AL West-leading Angels, trying to climb eight games above .500 for the first time since June 10, 2018. There were joint 0s for three-time MVP Mike Trout and MVP Shohei Ohtani. 8 with two strikeouts. Jose Suarez (0-2) lost.
