The stabbing of a man on Thursday night was the 35th homicide of the year in St. Paul, the most homicides on record.
Someone called 911 just before 8 p.m. and reported an attack in the 1700 block of East Seventh Street on the East Side and officers responded to a house. They found a man in his 20s who was stabbed.
Paramedics took the man to the region hospital where he later died.
Investigators believe the incident was not accidental and said there was no immediate danger to the public.
No one had been arrested as of Thursday night, but police said they had identified the person interested. He asked anyone with information to call him at 651-266-5650.
The most homicides on record in St. Paul were in 1992 and 34 last year.
“It’s a sad night for our town,” said Sgt. Police Spokesperson Natalie Davis. “Everybody killed this year left behind their loved ones. His death left a mark on our community and it is hard on our officers, who take these deaths personally. We want to let everyone know that we are doing everything possible to break these cycles of violence and bring justice to the victims and their families.”
