DENVER ( Associated Press) – Third seed San Diego star Manny Machado sprained his left ankle as he rolled over running down the ground, and the Colorado Rockies finished a three-game streak, beating the Padres 8-3 on Sunday.
In the midst of a great season, Machado got injured in the first inning and left the game. Padre said the X-rays were negative.
Randall Grichuk scored the host in the fifth inning of five runs, and the Rockies beat San Diego for the 10th time in a row at Course Field, their longest winning streak at home against Padres in team history.
Machado was injured after hitting a groundman who was slowly rolling towards pitcher Antonio Senzateli. Machado sprinted down the line and stretched his left leg toward first base when the throw arrived, but it seemed to slip over the top of his bag and he fell to the ground and his leg knelt below him.
Apparently in pain, Machado, who was halfway out of the game, grimaced and folded his arms around his lower left leg as the team’s coaches entered the field to take care of him.
Machado later sat down, but he could not put the weight on the injured ankle, so they helped him get off the field and enter the club for further examination.
Machado entered Sunday with a .329 strike with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Senzatela (3-3) gave six strong innings, Elias Diaz also scored, and CJ Cron had three goals for Colorado.
Luk Voit and Austin Nola set fire to Padre.
Voit took the lead in the second with Houmran, and the Rockies tied the score in their half second on Diaz’s RBI single.
Colorado opened it with a big heel.
Garrett Hampson tripled one out and Jonathan Daza took a walk, setting up RBI singles by Brendan Rodgers and Crohn, finishing Blake Snell (0-4). Stephen Wilson made it easy, and Gričuk hit a three-run run that led the Rockies 6-1.
Diaz, who finished with three RBIs, led Homered in sixth place and drew in seventh.
Nola had two Homer runs in the eighth match against Robert Stephenson. COACH ROOM
