After the passage of storm Ciarán, which affected Spain with strong winds, rain and snow, Sunday’s storm will arrive this weekend. This will leave us with a Saturday marked by strong winds in almost the whole country, as well as a strong storm at sea, especially in the Cantabrian Sea.
Spain will be full of warnings for dangerous and extreme events this week, mainly due to strong winds and waves and also rain. Hints on some parts of the map they rise to the red level (maximum risk). This is what happened this Saturday in A Coruña, Lugo, Asturias and Pontevedra, which is why caution is called for in those provinces.
Orange warning on Saturday due to strong winds
Saturday was a day marked by the effects of Sunday’s storm. As its corresponding cold front passes, winds will be strong in many areas of the Iberian Peninsula. This caused the issuance of an orange level warning in areas in the northwest of the country due to winds reaching 100 km/h.
Due to the wind, yellow level warnings were also activated in Castilla y León, northern mountainous areas and areas of Castilla-La Mancha, Valencian Community and Balearic Islands.
In addition to the wind warnings, there are also rain warnings active today. In the interior of Pontevedra, the rain warning will be orange level, for accumulations of up to 100 mm. In other places, however, they may be yellow. These warnings are concentrated in Galicia, León, Zamora and the Pyrenees in Huesca.
Finally, this day will be marked by coastal warnings in many regions of the country. On the Mediterranean coast they will be yellow in general, except in Almería, where they can reach the orange level. In the Cantabrian Sea the warning will be orange, due to waves reaching up to 8 meters.
Coastal and wind warnings will continue on Sunday
On Sunday, the active warnings in Spain are less than on Saturday. As for the air, they are limited around the Iberian system and the east of the country, including the Balearic Islands. There is also a yellow warning for rain in Pontevedra.
The most accurate warnings today are the beaches, which in the Cantabrian Sea will be orange level due to waves from 8 meters to 5 meters at the end of the day. In the Mediterranean we have yellow warnings, which in Almería can reach the orange level due to waves of 3 to 4 meters.
These notices are subject to change
Due to the complex atmospheric conditions that will occur this weekend as Typhoon Domingo passes, the warnings may change. It is therefore advised to be updated with the latest forecasts and any updates that may occur in the warnings.
